Species Standards

Prefered Habitat: *see breed differences*

Diet: Salaves will eat anything (living) that will fit in their mouths.. and thier mouths can open quite wide - so
be cautious, as they can eat children if not watched after properly.

Call: These creatures normally don't make any noise at all, but have occassionally been heard making a
light "hiss" sound... The only exception seems to be the "void" breed...

Special Care Needs:  Most of the breeds (with the exception of frost and ember) are cold-blooded, and
must be accomidated appropriately... Too cold and they'll die, likewise - too hot and they'll die.

Biology and Anatomy:   Something that many owners might find interesting about the Salaves is it's 6
insect-like legs with webbing that stretches between them like the hood of a cobera, or the flight membrane
of a flying squirrel... However, since they've reached their adult stage, most of the mysteries about this
"membrane" have been solved.. these creatures are capable of gliding through the air just as gracefully -
and with as much endurance - as a manta-ray in the sea. They cannot "take off" from the ground however,
and use the insect-like parts of their "legs" to help climb trees, and grab ahold of prey.

Behavioral Study: Salaves are loners, preferring to hunt on their own and only coming together if they
happen to share the same rock in the sun. They're territorial, and if confronted by an enemy, they will rise
upward as far as they can, perfectly balanced and poised. If that doesn't scare the intruder off, they use their
insect legs to stretch out the membrane and appear even larger. The bigger the Salaves, the wider the birth
the others give you. After all, fully grown ones have been known to eat smaller ones to solve territory issues.
They, unlike the newer, sleeker versions, are bulky and more awkward, thus easily underestimated. When
they take aim and prepare to strike their prey (which they swallow whole, of course, alive or after suffocating
it with their thick coils) they can move extremely fast. Preferring to keep to themselves, they will bond with a
human with the ease of, well, a snake. They are smart and cunning, and know who feeds and takes care of
them. Be kind and watchful, and you'll have an agreement that they will not eat you nor your other pets.
Ignore it, and you or your pets will be added to the menu.

Suggested Uses: Good question.. why WOULD somebody want a pet snake?
Breeds Available
Arid: The arid breed's scales match the sands and rocks that surround it's habitat. These creatures can be
often found in all sorts of deserts and wastelands, and occassionally in fields and some forests. They
prefer the warmer locations with less rainfall - as too much moisture may damage their scales.

Humid: The humid breed's scales match it's lush green habitat... These creatures are often found in areas
of the world with heavy rainfall, such as jungles and rainforests... On occasion, they may be found in regular
forests or fields, if there's enough humidity to support them.

Void: It used to be veiled in mystery.. but in it's adult stage, a few new qualities have started to shine
through.. for example.. the Void breed is perfectly capable of speach... It can speak any language that it
managed to pick up during it's younger age... Quite handy.. or creepy... Because of this new-found ability
however, the adoption rate went up, and now they're all gone...

Frost: The frost breed is unique like it's ember counterpart. It was bred to be infused with the elements that
make the world cold - and therefore can withstand the most freezing temperatures. An "ice snake" so to
speak. Because of it's unique abilities, this creature (already rare) was quickly adopted out and no longer
available for adption.

Ember: The ember breed is also (like the frost) a rather unique creature. It was bred to be infused with the
elements of volcanos and fire - and therefore can withstand any amount of heat it may be exposed to. A "fire
snake" so to speak. Because of it's unique abilities, this creature (already rare) was quickly adopted out and
no longer available for adoption.

Hydro: The hydro breed was more desinged for underwater life it seems... Rather than gliding through the
air, they can "glide" through the water with absolute grace! Although, they're perfectly capable of going on
land, and even gliding through the air when older, they tend to stay away from it. They prefer to eat fish.
