Prefered Habitat: Shiku live anywhere there are trees. From the colder climates (where there are trees
such as pines), to the warmer climates (where there are trees such as dipoterocarps)... They are not found
in artic areas or deserts, or anywhere there is not a dense population of forested area.
Diet: Shiku eat primarily nuts. They are perfectly willing to eat seeds, and some berries, and will even on
occassion eat insects. But their diet is primarily of hard-shelled nuts, which is easy to see when you look at
their teeth, designed for gnawing.
Call: Though many believe that the Shiku was named after an individual, many others believe that the Shiku
was named after the chattering call it makes, "Shii-KU! Shi-ku-ku!" Chatter-bark! "tshe-she-tse", aww, how
cute.
Special Care Needs: When a Shiku is young, they are rather small and frail, and the prime sport of many
predators. Keep a close eye on your Shiku, or you may find it in the stomach of some Izer or Enileaf! Also,
though Shiku in adulthood can glide, as a baby, they cannot - be sure to not let your Shiku leap off any tall
surfaces, or it will surely break it's little delicate bones!
Biology and Anatomy: The first thing that most people notice about the Shiku is it's three ridges of fur.
Down the center of it's back, there are three "backwards" ridges of longer fur, clearly noticable - especially
as these ridges are almost always pure white. These ridges of fur don't seem to serve and purpose, but
they certainly make the species interesting. The second thing an owner may notice is it's wing-flaps.. Extra
skin that stretches from their front to hind feet, allowing them to glide on the wind. Something that is odd
about a Shiku is that "it grows into it's ears, but it's tail grows into it.".. Indeed, a baby Shiku has enormous
ears, but the ears never grow as it ages. And indeed, it has a very very short tail (which is why a baby
cannot glide, for lack of balance), but the tail continually grows until it reaches adulthood.
Behavioral Study: Shiku, though fairly social creatures, tend to live in small family groups (mother, father,
offspring). They sleep in "clumps", known as "shiku lumps", where you may look into the nest to find a biiig
ball of fluff, only to discover it is in fact 5 different Shiku all sleeping together.
Suggested Uses: These cute pets are a favorite for parents to give to their children. Although, they usually
require quite a bit of training if you don't want them to destroy your house when they get older. Certainly a
test of responsibility, no?
Chestnut: The Chestnut breed, sometimes called the "pine breed" is the breed often found in the colder
regions where pine forests are most common. We're not sure why it's named after a Chestnut (rather than
a pine-cone), but there you have it.
Kluwak: The Kluwak is the considered to be the "jungle" breed, though it does not live exclusively in the
jungles. It is perfectly happy however, to venture farther south where the tree leaves get more waxy, and the
rain falls more frequently.
Walnut: The Walnut is the most frequently seen Shiku, depending on where you live (the Chestnut coming in
close second). It is usually found anywhere there are leafy forests and trees, even venturing so far as to
developed areas, living in trees at the homes of humans.
Gingko: The Gingko is hard to describe where it lives.. It is not albino, nor does it live (like most white
creatures from the labs) where it snows every day. Instead, the Gingko lives on or around special trees that
tend to have healing properties. Because their homes are so rare and far between, the Gingko is most
commonly found in the homes of good and loving owners who keep a clean living space. Seeing a Gingko
Shiku is said to be good luck.
Pistashio The Pistashio (though "funny" colors because of it's favored diet) is extra special in other ways. It has super-secret-awesome spooky psychic mind powers! Super Mind Powers! It knoooooows. "Tshu?"
