Species Standards
Prefered Habitat: Kito live where it is fairly warm, moist, and there is good soft soil. They are never found
where the earth is frozen, or in the desert. Forests are greatly prefered to them than fields, though they can
live in both. During the winter, if they are in a place that may snow or freeze, they die. However - in their
most natural state, they will produce seed before they die, ensuring that during the thaw, new Kito will arrive
safely into the world.
Diet: The Kito is a strict Carnivore. It can bury it's feet in the soil when it rests, and absorb sunlight or
moonlight respectively - but it cannot survive alone on that. It must hunt for it's main meals, and eat at least
one time a day. It's favored foods are insects (usually large), rodents (such as mice or rats), and small
birds. Pretty well anything it can catch and swallow whole, it will eat.
Call: The most common 'call' that owners will report, is a "croak". At their peak time, they may sit up on a
rock, and "sing". Singing is also a croaking, or chirping noise - which is reported to sound like a cricket or
tree-frog. On rare occasions, a few owners have reported "squeaking" as a happy sound, but that has yet to
be confirmed.
Special Care Needs: Feed them, or loose your fingers.
Biology and Anatomy: Though a Kito is registered as a 'plant', and it does indeed take some of it's energy
from sunlight and soil - it's much more of an active creature. It's very long and needle-like teeth are easily
broken, but make a marvelous "cage" for it's prey. Luckily, they re-grow their teeth at a rapid rate (within' a
week) should any of them break. They are a bit top-heavy, and their thick tail is used as a counter-balance.
They are fairly decent runners, even if their run is considered "funny" (like a chicken's). Their eyes are at the
ends of very short "stalks", and completely spherical. They can see in all direction at once - so there is no
such thing as sneaking up on a Kito. It also cannot blink, nor does it close it's eyes when sleeping.
Behavioral Study: Kito are fairly simple creatures. They eat, they sleep, they play. It is a bit of a challenge to
get them to learn new tricks, as they are quite simple by nature - but they can learn. Repetition is key when
teaching them. They are not particularly social creatures, and don't even seem interested in any sort of
mating behaviors. The best thing is perhaps to pet them, give them a ball to chase, and meet their basic
needs (food, water, shelter). If you can do that, you will have a happy Kito.
Suggested Uses: At a young age, Kito make wonderful pets. But at older ages, many owners abandon
their Kito because of their size and teeth. Some owners may find their 'power' useful, however.
Occasus: The Occasus, or "fading sun" Kito attempts to burrow it's way underground for most of the day and
night. It can be seen foraging during the few peak hours when the sun is setting or rising - when the sun's
brilliant rays die down, and coat the sky in a beautiful red. Of course, an Occasus can be trained to be active
during whatever time of the day (or night) the owner who teaches it properly prefers... but because of it's
more delicate and selective nature, the Occasus is no longer available for adoption.
Noctis: The Noctis, or the "nightime" Kito is only active at night. It takes a great deal of energy from the
moonlight, and will sleep during the daytime. In fact, it avoids the daylight hours, and finds 'bright light' to be
almost too painful to it's sensitive eyes.
Putesco: The Putesco, or the "daytime" Kito is only active during the day. It takes a great deal of energy from
the sunlight, and will sleep during the night-time. In fact, it avoids the night-time, and finds that when it is
dark, the world is scary.

Fenestra The Fenestra Kito, or "windowsill" Kito, is also known as the "household" Kito. They are frequently sold to mid-class families as pets, highly prized not only for their bright and colorful appearance, but also for their very noticable lack of needle-like teeth. Plus, they can still eat pest-like insects and rats! But you'd best keep your song-birds in their cages..
