Species Standards
Prefered Habitat: The Equillion species prefers the warmer climates, and it almost always seems to prefer
the open areas such as plains, grasslands, or prairies. Keeping it in an enclosed space usually makes it
very nervous, and a nervous animal is almost always a dangerous one.
Diet: Diet mostly consists of grasses and grains, but will occasionally eat vegetables and fruit.
Call: This species usually makes the sounds that you would hear from any normal horse, with a few
exceptions (read below in "breed differences")..
Special Care Needs: The Equllion, for the most part, needs no more care than a typical horse.. With a few
exceptions.. Please be sure to read in the breed differences for special care needs specific to your breed.
Biology and Anatomy: Generally, Equillion love to be brushed, and need to be. An Equillion is an energetic
creature, and it will roll in the dirt, or gallop through the mud, so bathes and brushings are assumed needs.
An Equillion spends most of its time standing up, its sturdy legs built to hold its weight. It can accomodate
for short periods of time on three legs, resting the other. Occasionally, it will lay down, or roll around on its
back, but due to its size, if this is prolonged, internal damage could result. All Equillion have tough, cloven
hooves that need to be taken care of, and filed down (especially in the Tainted's case) occasionally. With
the exception of the Tainted, Equillion do not possess fangs, though they still pack a strong bite if they think
your finger's a carrot.
Behavioral Study: Equillion usually do very well in groups, and don't like enclosed or tight spaces... More
information pending research...
Suggested Uses: The main use for this creature, is to serve as a mount.
Common: The Common breed is just that - it has no special qualities that set it appart from the "species
standards"... They're the most favored mounts, as they're fairly easy to train in comparison to the other
breeds.
Pure: The Pure breed is the only one that prefers the cover of trees, rather than the open plains. It's sound is
also unique in that it can be oly described as a low bell, or the song that a whale makes mixed with a cello
(base violin)... to be sure, it is a beautiful and unique sound. Because of popluar demand for the breed, they
were all snatched up by all manners of zoos and private owners - you're very lucky if you managed to get
ahold of one. Rumors have it that they also hold healing powers! The pure breed is also rather difficult to
keep, as it is careful not to step on a single living blade of grass as an adult, and will only eat fruit that has
fallen from a tree, rather than plucked from it. When it reaches it's old stage of life, it takes the "don't step on
grass" to an extreme - as it can take a misty form, ever changing, and "hover" over the ground - never truely
touching it.. This does not however, mean that the creature can fly - it just doesn't ever truely touch the
ground. It can also dissapear into a mystical fog - as if it never were.. did you manage to spot one?
Tainted: The Tainted breed is a frightening thing indeed, for it is the only Equilion that is a strict carnivore. It's
mane and tail are not actually on fire, but their coloration is quite brilliant in color. With such a bad
tempermant, one should be cautious when training or handling a Tainted breed. In addition to the usual
noises that an Equillion makes, the Tainted breed has been known to growl. Like the Pure breed, they were
all snatched up by all manners of zoos and private owners - you're very lucky if you managed to get ahold of
one! Rumors have it, that as an adult, the Tainted breed can actually breath fire! Imagine that, a
fire-breathing equillion! When they reach their old stage of life, their bodies twist and distort even more,
matching their minds. They take on traits of the shadow - and their manes are wreathed in flames! Luckily, if
they're loyal to their owner, they may choose to not scorch their hand - but with these tempermental
creatures? It's unlikely.
Wild: The Wild breed is a marvelous jumper, and rather than running, it seems to "leap and bound". It's call
sounds more like a deer than that of a horse - and it tends to be quite shy. The wild breed is sadly too small
to use as a mount by most people, save for children. They cannot carry anything over 125 pounds.
Zesty: The Zesty breed is very similar to the Common in that it has very little qualities that set it appart. It
does however, have a personality that matches it's name, and can be quite hyper-active at times. It's
coloration is also unique, and if you look hard enough, you may notice that it's stripes are not black, but a
collection of random colors.
Pygmy: The Pygmy is much smaller than the normal Equillion.. so much smaller.. In fact, they can't ever be
ridden - even in adult stage.. unless, of course - you happen to be 3 feet tall (or less)...
